The Lordmatic Special was Daini-Seikosha’s response to the very diverse and high production Suwa Seikosha Lordmatic Cal.56xx driven watches. This particular LM Special is a second generation model 5216 that came out after the more stylistically conservative 5206. Furthermore, the first generation Cal.5206 had an instant day/date changeover mechanism that utilized one of the larges springs in any seiko and in the wrong hands would jump out of place or break the day/date jumper completely. That being, the Cal.5216 has a standard date driving wheel and day finger which changes the calendar in a typical slow rotation. This example of the 5216-7110 is in excellent condition and has a good deal of scuffs throughout the high polished case, however the polishing is bright. The crystal is something to behold and is increasing rare. Many collectors pass on these cut crystal models because the crystals are nearly impossible to find in NOS condition. The bracelet is also original however some of the links have been removed so an extender has been fitter in case of larger wrists. For small wrist wearers, the extender can easily be removed with a spring bar tool. The LM Special is a very functional automatic watch with a movement that could easily stand up to daily wear, however the styling of the model 7110 is quite bold and the crystal can at time make reading the time a bit “trippy.” In terms of size, the Cal.5216 watches all tend to be larger and wear larger then the first generation Cal.5206 counterparts.
