This early Leopard has a matte black stick hands with small skeletonized cutouts sitting against a radial sunburst champagne silver dial. Additionally the dial is quite large for a vintage piece with a box domed acrylic crystal measuring in at 33mm. The result is a very elegant yet legible piece. The 7200 movement kicked off the Leopard line which started at a respectable 21,600 bpm before it continued to add ticks with evolving generations. The marking on the dial are also characteristic of the earliest Leopards; We have only the critical information: Leopard and 26 Jewels. Later Leopards would incorporate more text and insignias. In a way, this particular 720032 could be considered the most classic in terms of look and design as compared to later Leopards. Lastly, this particular example arrived to Obsolete Inventory with the caseback nearly welded shut. That being, the efforts of previous watchmakers have been inscribed in the caseback - there are deep marks and some pitting in the case where moisture was held against the gasket. Despite the tarnishing, water intrusion hasn’t damaged any movement parts or the dial and hands. Lastly, the crystal for this model was originally spec’d as a double domed mineral crystal which only Citizen made - it’s an extremely rare crystal if not entirely exhausted. As it was to mimic the look of a double domed acrylic crystal, this is what was opted for as a replacement. This is an excellent daily wearer, functional with a classic vintage look. It wears a bit bigger than most from the late 60s and certainly 70s, however the cushion case gives the watch a short lug to lug distance making it a very good candidate as a comfortable daily wearer.
